Abstract

With a focus on how communal factors and hate speech affect voter behaviour and electoral outcomes, this study thoroughly understands about the effects of hate speech and communal politics on Indian elections. It explores historical and contemporary trends of political actors who have exploited religious and ethnic dichotomies to increase electoral support, frequently resulting in increased social tensions and polarisation. The study examines patterns in the use of hate speech by examining case studies from different states. It also focuses on how effective hate speech is at both dividing communities and electorates. The research relies on various literature, examination of current trends, and other scholarly studies, rather than utilising survey or statistical data. The observation indicates that although the use of communal discourse may lead to immediate political advantages, it also presents substantial dangers to the maintenance of democracy and social unity. Moreover, the study also examines the legislative and institutional structures that regulate hate speech in India, evaluating their effectiveness in suppressing such behaviours. The report concludes by suggesting legislative measures to alleviate the negative impacts of community politics and foster a more inclusive and tolerant political discussion. This research adds to the wider discussion on the connections between politics, media, and society, providing important insights into the workings of electoral campaigns and their wider social consequences.
